What Learning Science Says About Audio Tone, Trust, and Engagement

Why AI voice selection is a learning design decision, not just a sound-quality choice.

AI voices can sound natural and still hurt learning.

The difference comes down to tone, pacing, and alignment with learning goals—not just voice quality.

Why AI Voice Selection Matters More Than Ever in eLearning

AI narration has changed the economics of audio in online learning.

What used to require:

Voice talent coordination

Recording sessions

Budget and timeline tradeoffs

…can now be done quickly and affordably using AI voice tools.

That’s a major opportunity for eLearning agencies and instructional design teams — but it also introduces a new risk: choosing a voice that sounds “good,” but works against learning.

As audio becomes easier to add, voice selection becomes a design decision, not a production afterthought.

Audio Is a Learning Enhancement, Not Decoration

When used intentionally, narration can:

Support multimodal learning

Reduce screen fatigue

Improve engagement in long or complex lessons

Help learners stay focused in mobile or audio-first environments

But only if the voice supports how learners process information.

What Research Reveals About Voice and Learning

Across cognitive psychology, multimedia learning, and human–computer interaction research, one pattern is consistent: how information is delivered affects how well it’s learned.

Voice tone, pacing, and emotional delivery influence:

Cognitive load

Learner trust

Motivation and attention

Emotional readiness to learn

Below are the research-backed insights that matter most for practice.

1. Cognitive Load: When Voice Helps — or Hurts — Learning

Learning is limited by working memory. When narration adds unnecessary effort, learners spend energy processing delivery instead of content.

Research on Cognitive Load Theory and multimedia learning shows that:

Overly fast narration

Excessive expressiveness

Emotionally mismatched tone

…can increase extraneous cognitive load, especially in technical or procedural content.

Practical takeaway

For high-density learning (compliance, systems, procedures):

Neutral, steady narration often improves comprehension

Clear pacing supports retention

Less “performance,” more clarity

A voice can be engaging—and still make learning harder.

2. Voice Tone and Learner Trust

Learners form rapid judgments about a narrator’s:

Credibility

Authority

Warmth

Research in human–computer interaction shows that people respond to AI voices much like human ones—applying the same social expectations.

What this means for course design

Neutral, confident voices often signal expertise

Warm, supportive voices can build emotional safety

Neither is universally “better.”

The right choice depends on context and learning intent.

Voice choice shapes whether learners trust the content—or tune it out.

3. Emotion, Motivation, and Engagement

Learning is not purely cognitive.

Educational psychology and affective neuroscience show that emotion directly influences attention and motivation. Narration tone can:

Increase alertness and engagement

Support reflection and emotional processing

Or create fatigue when mismatched

The key insight

Don’t default to:

High energy

High empathy

Or “friendly” voices

Instead, match tone to learning outcomes, just like you do with visuals or interactions.

Why the Voice Selector Focuses on Tone (Not Gender or Accent)

You may notice that the Shine Content Voice Selector doesn’t start by asking for:

Gender

Accent

Age

That’s intentional.

Research shows that preferences for these traits:

Vary widely by culture and context

Are shaped by individual experience

Don’t reliably predict learning effectiveness

What does consistently matter:

Tone

Pacing

Clarity

Emotional alignment with content

Tone influences learning outcomes more reliably than demographic voice traits.

Once tone is selected, teams can choose from a diverse range of voices that fit their audience.

Human judgment still matters.

You know your learners best.

How to Integrate Voice Selection into Your Design Process

Most teams choose voices late—after scripts are finalized.

A better approach is to treat voice like any other design decision.

Practical starting points

Include tone in your creative briefAsk: What kind of presence should this course have?

Use sample clips earlyShort audio samples help stakeholders “feel” the course before it’s built.

Test with real contentDemo scripts hide problems. Real paragraphs reveal them.

Voice selection works best when it happens before narration—not after problems appear.

From Theory to Practice

AI narration makes audio easier to add—but easier doesn’t automatically mean better.

When voice is chosen intentionally:

Learner flow improves

Cognitive load decreases

Audio becomes part of the learning design—not an add-on

That’s why we built the Voice Selector:

to help teams choose AI voices that support learning, not just sound good.

Try the Voice Selector

Final Thought

The real question isn’t: “Does this AI voice sound natural?”

It’s: “Does this voice help learners understand, stay engaged, and keep going?”

That’s where learning design shows up—and where thoughtful audio choices make a measurable difference.

I4PL 2024 conference takeaways

Let’s check out the key takeaways along the following themes:

Tracking behaviour change

Trends driving learning innovation

Authentic learning with measurable results

The future of L&D

Tracking behaviour change

Chris Taylor’s standout session emphasized how we can use technology to bridge learning and business goals by going well beyond evaluating knowledge retention and participant satisfaction. Chris shared a series of models that culminate in tracking corollaries to behaviour change early in order to ensure pathways to business impact.

This jam-packed session was full of insights that aligned with our own approach to personalizing learning for greater impact and maximizing digital learning ROI.

Here are a few key insights:

For every 1 part of content that is introduced, 3 parts contextualization are needed. For example:

10 minutes of content = 30 minutes of discussion and reflection

The goal of behaviour change needs to be embedded in all aspects of training programs. This starts with asking participants: What is one thing that you can put into practice that will make the biggest difference in your work?

Learning happens through interactions with colleagues, regular check-ins, and accountability partners.

Remember: A community of practice is critical to the most impactful learning programs.

Trends driving learning innovation

The pandemic reshaped training delivery—and it’s sticking. With 70% of organizations conducting less than 25% of their training in-person, digital transformation is here to stay.

Organizations know they have skills gaps in areas of digital transformation: 74% say they do—we’re inclined to believe the remaining 26% are in denial.

Interestingly, the priority remains on training soft skills over growing digital excellence.

AI dominated the conference floor, with vendors showcasing tools to personalize and enhance learning experiences.

Personalization for every learner continues to top the list of priorities, helping participants engage more deeply with tailored content.

Authentic learning with measurable results

A session from TD Wealth by Randy Sabourin & Courtney Appleby highlighted the importance of upfront research, strategic planning, and measurable outcomes.

Key highlights:

Use clear rubrics and coaching to normalize feedback across teams with multiple facilitators.

Create opportunities for immediate practice and feedback, with 1:1 practice sessions with a colleague, facilitator, or subject matter expert, not group role-playing.

Design “bring your own challenge” scenarios for practical, real-world learning.

Remember: Practice scenarios 1:1, not with group role-playing.

The future of L&D

A keynote by Dan Pontefract reminded us that L&D is more than a function—it’s a fulcrum for workplace transformation. By integrating tools like AI and fostering empathetic, human-first training, L&D professionals can act as human performance change agents. This call to action sets an inspiring path for 2025!

A successful and inspiring I4PL 2024 conference!

The conference was a strong reminder that L&D isn’t just about delivering content—it’s about designing experiences that inspire action, change, and growth.

We’re inspired to integrate these ideas into our own work and help others leverage human-centred learning technology to make a measurable business impact with their training programs.

We’re passionate about turning technological insights and tools into real learning impact. This year’s conference theme—Shake It Up!—is the perfect prompt to think about the untapped potential we can unlock when training programs responsibly leverage digital tools, AI, and data. When we move beyond traditional methods and embrace scenario-based, data-driven learning, we accellerate learning transfer, ultimately leading to improved workplace performance. And that’s why we’re pleased to be sponsoring this years conference.

For all those course creators out there, we’re excited to share a new tool with you that will help make your Articulate Rise courses even more immersive, accessible, interactive, and engaging. Say Yeah developed Rise & Shine to magically bring courses to life with immersive audio and add flexibility for learners and course managers.

The Articulate Rise web-based authoring tool has been a boon to course creators looking to build interactive, mobile-friendly online courses without deep technical skills.

Rise already does so many things well—from allowing for responsive design to incorporating interactive content blocks—but there are clear opportunities to improve accessibility, flexibility, and engagement. We’ve taken Rise to the next level by creating an add-on that lets users listen to the content immersively as they engage with media and interactive content, while allowing course managers to easily update content on an ongoing basis.

Trust us, it’s cool. Get a feel for Rise & Shine.

Let’s explore what Shine is and how it can provide a better user experience for your learners.

Shine makes every Rise course more engaging and accessible

No question, Rise is a great tool for course creators, but there are a number of out-of-the-box constraints for learners. The model of Rise courses is a slide-show style standard that’s augmented by an overreliance on animation that isn’t as immersive, flexible, or comfortable for every learner as it should be.

To address this, we created an immersive read-along narration that works with all standard Rise elements across a course. Easy to setup and seamless to update, courses become more immersive, flexible, and accessible for every learner.

Here’s how it works.

Automatic integration into existing content

Shine automatically syncs its narration—not only with text-based content, but with interactive Rise blocks too—as learners are guided through the course. This includes headings, quotes, images, lists, and more. The add-on requires no additional technical set-up—making enhancing existing courses quick and simple, and easy to update if you need to make any changes to course content.

Customization options

Learners have different preferences as to how they engage with course content. Shine empowers every learner to choose the path that best suits them. Each learner can control and adjust the speed of spoken content, while automatically scrolling through the text to create an immersive, hands-free learner experience.

You get to choose from multiple voices to match the tone of the course and adjust settings for more accessible text sizes, voice integration, and animations.

Enhanced interactivity

Shine makes spoken playback more engaging by automatically incorporating visual elements like tabs, accordions, and flash cards provided by standard Rise blocks.

Learners can also follow the narrated content while simultaneously interacting with multimedia elements, such as videos, quizzes, and clickable scenarios.

And audio prompts remind learners when their input is needed for assessments or other types of engagements, ensuring everyone gets to experience the full, expanded, and immersive learning experience of Rise & Shine.

Try out the latest demo at https://shine.sayyeah.courses

Compatibility

Shine is compatible across all devices and platforms. Whether learners access a course on a desktop, tablet, or mobile device, the narration will function smoothly, providing a consistent and seamless learning experience. Simply put: Shine works where Rise works, augmenting your Rise courses wherever they’re accessed.

Let’s highlight Shine’s benefits for learners

Improved accessibility

Shine makes Rise courses even more accessible by allowing learners with visual impairments, reading difficulties, or other specific learning needs more options for how they access and engage with the course content.

Increased engagement

Shine not only adds greater interactivity to courses, it also creates a multi-sensory experience that can help clarify complex ideas and reinforce key points.

A more flexible learning experience

Shine makes it easy for learners to access their online courses on any device, whether at home, work, class, or on a commute, while tailoring the learning experience to their preferences.

How does Rise & Shine work?

Unlocking these benefits couldn’t be easier.

You simply take your Rise course package, drop it into Shine, choose a voice, and let the magic happen. You then take your Shined Rise package, publish it as you usually do, and you’re done!

Need to make changes?

No trouble! Update your course content in Rise and drop the latest version back into Shine. Shine will automatically update all the audio based on the latest course content and you’ll get your latest Shined Rise package back.

We were excited to attend this year’s Training Industry Strategy Summit 2024!

Here’s what we learned.

The Training Industry Strategy Summit, held online September 25-26, 2024, brought together thought leaders, innovators, and training professionals to share insights and explore the future of the industry.

With so many shifts happening in the world of Learning and Development (L&D), this event provided an information and engaging exploration into where the future of training is headed and what businesses need to realize performane gains from L&D.

There were far too many great presentations to recap—and to attend! There was a one-hour interval where we were debating between three different sessions, but here’s a few representative takeaways from across the following themes:

Training in the flow of work

Changing priorities in Learning and Development

Measuring training impact

Where AI fits into training

Training in the flow of work

One of the key takeaways was the growing need for training in the flow of work—making learning available when it’s needed. With employees juggling multiple responsibilities and tight deadlines, self-directed learning is becoming more important. Whether it’s on-demand microlearning or an AI-powered coach, training that fits seamlessly into day-to-day tasks allows employees to upskill in real-time, boosting both efficiency and retention.

Changing priorities in Learning and Development

The summit also shed light on the evolving priorities within L&D.

As technology continues to advance and workplace models shift, companies are focusing on building capability through upskilling and digital transformation. This, combined with the increasing use of AI, means there’s potential for a more streamlined, tech-driven approach to training.

However, we’re also seeing a strategic reduction in L&D staff, pushing organizations to rethink how they deliver training. With fewer people available to facilitate, methods that incorporate digital tools and automation are becoming essential to maintaining effectiveness.

Measuring training impact

To ensure that L&D efforts are truly impactful, companies must use both quantitative and qualitative data to validate their training initiatives.

Training programs must align with business objectives so organizations can see real results—not just in learning outcomes but in overall business performance.

Where AI fits into training

AI was a hot topic throughout the summit, particularly in terms of personalizing training pathways.

AI-driven solutions can adapt content to different roles, scenarios, and specific audiences, allowing businesses to extend core training with contextual content tailored to particular roles or situations.

This level of personalization makes learning more relevant and engaging, driving better outcomes for both employees and organizations.

See how Say Yeah is powering inclusive and accessible eLearning through AI by providing multi-modal and multi-lingual learning options.

Thanks to all the great people we met at Training Industry Strategy Summit 2024!

In addition to the insightful sessions, the Training Industry Strategy Summit 2024 was a fantastic opportunity to network with other L&D professionals.

Thanks to the organizers for hosting such an informative and valuable event.

We look forward to next year’s summit!

Much of this work is driven by English-language business. So much so that organizations we’ve worked with in South America, the Middle East, and South Asia have asked us to focus on English-language training for their staff and students.

The intention behind this English-first approach is to grow capacity and capability in doing business globally, but the result can make onboarding, upskilling, and collaboration more difficult.

Through our ongoing research and practice at Say Yeah, we asked: how might we improve how language is incorporated in learning programs to better enable a global and diverse workforce?

The answer isn’t to provide distinct courses for each language.Instead, we need to integrate multiple languages into a single course to help forge new pathways that elevate learning and collaboration.

Let’s take a look at how this works.

Getting started with an English-language course is common across the globe. In the examples that follow, we’ll reference our Practical Inclusive Design course.

One of the key considerations (and gaps we see across courses) is that, while new terms are consistently introduced to learners throughout a course, there’s no easy way to gather or reference those terms.

A Glossary should be standard across all courses.

A Glossary is a central reference for learners to jog their memory related to key topical terms. And it allows for so much more.

In addition to gathering key terms related to a course topic, we can move beyond the written word to incorporate audio. This helps learners not just see and spell a word, but also incorporate it into their vocabulary with confidence, whether reading, writing, or speaking.

Better still, we can expand the capabilities of a glossary to include the most common languages spoken in a region, workplace, or with global partners. In our course example, we’ve included English, French, Spanish, and Arabic.

You can easily add more languages that may be relevant to your workforce or group of learners.

Now you can prepare for a discussion with a colleague who speaks another language by reading and listening to those keywords relevant to your conversation in their native language.

And there’s more.

The foundation of the glossary allows for new integrated multi-lingual references across an entire course. Consider when you’re working through a new course, coming across new terms.

On any page of a course, the terms you may not be familiar with are highlighted. By clicking on the term, not only do you see the definition in the language of the course, but you can hear how this word sounds.

If you’re new to English, you can see the word in your native language to help you make the connection to this new English term.

Or, if you’re collaborating with a colleague who prefers a language other than English, you can review the word in their language and join them in conversation.

This kind of integrated multi-lingual learning is a natural evolution for eLearning that we can help you provide, whether integrating these capabilities within your existing eLearning authoring tools or helping you get started.

Get in touch today to talk about how we can help your entire organization learn and work smarter.

We are thrilled to launch the latest in AI-powered eLearning technology.

This new technology:

opens up course accessibility

automates personalization for learners

remains portable and compatible with existing LMS and HRIS systems.

And it’s only available from Say Yeah!

Let’s explore why this is so important and how it works.

There’s a fundamental challenge with learning where most courses—whether online, hybrid, in a classroom, or led by a workplace trainer—follow a single, typically lecture-based model.

One course, delivered one way, for everyone.

The challenge is, people learn in different ways. And this single model or format for delivering a course doesn’t help everyone learn and grow with confidence.

That’s a problem for workplace preparedness and development, where success is measured by growing the capacity and capability of everyone on a team.

To address this, we’ve developed a software framework that helps you deliver next-generation learning programs to everyone, whether you’re launching a brand new course, or working with an existing LMS or HRIS system.

I’d like to share with you a transformative shift in eLearning that celebrates and supports every learner, giving them the options they need to engage more effectively with course content in order to move from knowledge to action in their day-to-day work. ~ Say Yeah CEO, Lee Dale

When we develop a course together, we combine course content best practices with the latest AI-powered eLearning automations to quickly and easily expand single-track learning to allow people to watch, listen, or read a course.

Included is the ability for every learning to adjust the settings to their ideal:

Auto advance to the next lesson to keep the course material flowing.

Scroll with spoken text and have the video move along with you. The video anchors in the corner and the screen scrolls to the text that’s being spoken.

Highlight spoken text so you can follow along with the narration even more closely.

The settings are designed to support multiple learning modes so every learner can work through the course in a way that works best for them, with the flexibility to adjust at any time.

A sample course interface showing how text highlights as video and audio play and all the available settings adjustments you may choose from.

Listen and highlight text while you take notes on your laptop.

Press play and set auto advance to the next lesson and pop your phone in your pocket. The course becomes your new favourite podcast.

Not interested in listening, switch to text mode and continue at your own pace.

Watch, listen, or read any course with automated personalization from Say Yeah!

Impressively, our software accelerates the previously manual process of creating multiple formats for content by leveraging subject matter expertise, instructional design expertise, custom code, and artificial intelligence to quickly and automatically deliver multiple formats that support every learner.

So what used to be difficult to make and manage becomes almost automatic to create, and effortless to update.

From AI to machine learning in the workplace, digital transformation has opened up exciting new possibilities to drive economic growth. But when you consider Canada’s declining economic growth, we risk missing out on the potential benefits of our ongoing digital transformation.

Now more than ever, Canada needs a workforce that can adapt to and operate within a rapidly changing technology environment. Building these competencies will require a culture of lifelong learning that spans academia and the workplace. As Canada looks to the future, eLearning is a pillar upon which to build the workforce to power a healthy, sustainable, and growing economy.

In a new op-ed published on TheFutureEconomy.ca, Say Yeah CEO Lee Dale delves into how embracing lifelong learning facilitated by eLearning at institutional and corporate levels can set us on a better path toward global economic prosperity.

<img class="wp-image-16929 size-full" src="https://insights.sayyeah.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Lee-Dale-LinkedIn-1.jpg" alt="Say Yeah CEO Lee Dale on LinkedIn posted about his op-ed on theFutureEconomy.Ca. The caption reads: For too long, Canada's economy has lagged on the global stage. But as the world shifts towards an accelerating digital economy, driven by automation and AI, we have a clear path to competitiveness: upskilling our workforce. On this International Day of Education, check out my article on how eLearning sets the most effective path to closing Canada's skills gap at TheFutureEconomy.ca.
Key highlights

Canadian workplaces need to become hubs for innovation and collective growth. How do we do this?

Take action on diversity: A large demographic of skilled Canadians remain chronically unhired. As a result, Canada is missing out on a rich diversity of thought and perspectives, which could open up diverse markets and power up innovation.

Get the ball rolling on eLearning: Effective eLearning is a critical part of supporting and scaling a productive learning ecosystem across organizations.

By embracing new opportunities and implementing best practices across technology, academia, business, and government, Canada can close its widening skills gap and position itself as a global leader, all while nurturing the next generation of innovators.

What we’re starting to see right now is a huge influx of new competition and new entries to the market who are coming from other countries or other continents, or from other completely different businesses. So Apple, for example. Apple are about to launch a physical credit card. If you were to go back eight years and say is Apple going to be a threat to the financial services industries, you’d be like, no. Well now it’s very much a part of the financial services industries. Facebook has a banking license in Europe, the Chinese social networks all have very large financial offerings now. And all of those things wouldn’t have been foreseen five or six years ago. And I think if you’re only looking within your own business, you’re only looking within your own field, you’re going to be crushed in the onslaught when the new entries arrive.

I think it’s so critical that all companies use digital and design thinking with every breath that they take in their occupation, because if you don’t, you really become the frog in the pot, so the frog in the pot story is that somebody put a frog in cold water in a pot and they slowly increase the heat until it was boiling and the frog was dead. But the frog didn’t feel the heat, and just died. So you know, you don’t expect to be thrown into boiling water, I mean technology doesn’t change instantly, Generation Z is not gonna automatically buy a whole life insurance policy from you, but I think if you don’t use that thinking on a day-to-day basis, then you’re really at risk of being disrupted.

I think first every organization should define its role in the world, even before moving into human-centered design practices. The bigger question is an existential one. Why do we deserve to exist? What is the unique value that we can provide as a company in a society, and for human beings? And once you have that figured out, sort of your unique market definition, out of that, you have to execute it against that. And I think there are these human- centric design methods that are absolutely very valuable.

Everybody’s trying to level best to be a customer-centric organization, and human-centered design is a big, big part of it. It’s how you think about customer journeys, what their needs and wants are, and how you kind of fulfill that.

Before we spend a dime on anything, we talk to our customers first. We also then don’t believe our customers because people say one thing and they behave differently. So we will build these small toys or tools with a very small budget, and then float them out to our customers, and then see if our customers actually use it, or if they don’t touch it. And then from there, we’ll look at investing in bigger partnerships. And then of course, using the data that we’ve found from these toys to inform actually building something internally.

Data means everything. We look at vast amounts of data that exist out there in terms of what our customers really need, in fact, even building something like the chatbot, we looked at real life cases of what do people actually ask when they call in, or visit a branch, and as I mentioned, self service online is one of the biggest things people ask for. Branch is one of the biggest things people ask for. ‘Cause you always want to build a product that people are gonna use at the end of the day, and if you don’t kind of build that with a platform or foundation of data, then it’s just a product.

But, virtual reality as a technology, is very interesting and very promising. And will transform the world in some way, will make a cultural change, will make a social change. And so the banking that you do is in a world where VR has happened.

Think realistically and you know, what do you do for people? Just try to avoid those labels, because I think those labels have become very problematic, I mean, ideally, you actually start by studying people and thinking about how do you create a very meaningful relationship with them. And I don’t think it’s a bad digital first, I don’t think it’s about just creating experiences, but defining first, like what’s your role? How can you create a very valuable relationship with those people?

Held in the heart of downtown Toronto at the Steam Whistle Brewery, Mobey Day Toronto invited professionals from top Canadian financial services, service design, and technology companies, as well as leaders from across Europe.

The two-day conference welcomed industry veterans and trailblazers to connect and learn, around the topics of open banking, technology partnerships, enhancing customer experience, and emerging technologies and methodologies.

Say Yeah had the privilege of interviewing the global group of speakers, representing top-performing companies that are driving effective transformation and emerging businesses that are disrupting markets.

Here are the topics that stood out to us during the talks and discussion panels.

Customer spending habits

Representing STACK—a new service for people to save and share money through their smartphone—Ranjit Sarai shared the importance of meeting the needs of the growing millennial market, and how data is the answer to meeting these needs.

With millennials trending towards exclusively operating across digital channels in order to manage their finances, this gives organizations more data to work with in order to make informed decisions about product, value, and experience. It’s this active, ongoing feedback loop to learn from that becomes a vital tool in order to continue serving millennials efficiently.

Sarai also highlighted how customer journey mapping and design thinking are great tools for helping organizations understand current behaviour and deliver suitable and customizable solutions to enhancing customer experience and increasing customer spending habits.

Customer Experience (Debbie Gamble, Interac)

Debbie Gamble is the VP of Digital Products and Platforms at Interac. This company is considered a B2B2C, but Gamble and her team believe that design is essential to customer experience. It’s not enough to focus on the businesses they service, and Interac takes its role in shaping the end-user experience seriously.

“Customer is at the centre of everything we do.”

~Debbie Gamble

When bringing products to market, Interac focuses on three key values:

Keeping their customer first;

Embodying a trusted relationship between the company and the client, and;

“pivoting with ease,” which is essential in an age of disruption.

She went on to describe that although serving customers most effectively requires the right channels, that’s not enough. Channels matter, but the right strategy is what makes all the difference.

Chatbot revolution

Sumit Sarkar from BMO presented a case study on the BMO Bolt Messenger Bot. BMO saw the implementation of a chatbot as a way to become more effectively engage with their customers.

They launched the Bolt Messenger Bot on Facebook Messenger and Twitter and found they were able to more effectively deliver service across these networks.

“We wanted to be where consumers are.”

With chatbots following familiar messaging service patterns and usage across already populated networks, BMO was confident that this new channel would be welcomed by the majority of their customers, and they’ve been thrilled with the response so far.

Open banking on the rise

The dynamics of financial services is changing significantly with open banking. With the implementation of real-time money management across a variety of providers, people have more control over their data and their money. The emergence of technology has propelled the notion of open banking (the use of Open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that allow third party developers to construct applications and services around the financial institution) quite rapidly.

According to Christine Robson, manager in the Monitor Deloitte corporate strategy group, open banking is here to stay. Open banking legislation and the use of Open Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that allow third party developers to construct applications and services across financial institution is opening up both consumer benefits and partnership opportunities.

“Open banking is not a new concept, it’s a movement.”

With the right application and adaptation, open banking has a potential to reshape the entire industry.

Panel

Stemming off from the topic of finance and chatbots, a panel featuring Jake Tyler from Finn.ai, Sasha Caskey from Kasisto, and Gurpreet Singh from BMO, gave insight on designing and deploying conversational AI. Participants challenges one another with thought-provoking questions for the future. With AI in banking, what will the future look like? How can one ensure bank loyalty in an age where millennials will never touch foot in a bank; is chatbot the answer to this?
